Academic integrity tutorialThe academic integrity quiz was highlighted through our academic integrity tutorial throughout semester two in the first year of my university degree.
Throughout learning the content regarding academic integrity, I found it very credible as I was beginning my first written assessment for Health Challenges of the 21st Century. In the past, I never realised how important a valid reference list was. Throughout my high school studies, a reference list was a simple list at the end of a report, however entering university has made me become aware how credible a reference list transforms information to become academic and scholarly. The tutorial mainly involved showing how to give credit to the authors in which where you used their information to validate your own ideas/ work. The overall message from the tutorial showed me how to conduct myself honestly, fairly and professionally when writing an academic piece of assessment. It clearly pointed out the academic misconduct of plagiarism, that we should be correctly showing respect to the authors that provided the information. After completing the set academic tutorial, I now have a better understanding and the knowledge to apply myself to produce a more academic and scholarly account throughout my study experiences. I have learnt how to look for valid resources on the internet and what to look for that creates a perfect academic and scholarly report for my current/ future studies. The tutorial also taught me how to adequately paraphrase, how to use quotes in a correct manner and synthesising information appropriately. I now have the knowledge how to reference correctly at a university standard, a crucial skill I will be using for the rest of my academic studies at university. Academic integrity is important for a future health professional because I feel that the content was a definite eye opener and extremely useful starting my first year of university studies. I now feel more confident and knowledgeable how to appropriately use information correctly throughout my studies. The overall content learnt from the tutorial taught me how to treat others with respect when writing my academic pieces, thus the acknowledgment of their work in which they deserve. This is an important concept which will definitely benefit my study career and other health professionals to produce a further academic and scholarly account. |
